In an attempt to increase visitor traffic and get the Hall into the North Carolina Travel Guide, the Silly Ass Hat Hall of Fame will be posting some of it's more notable members.

1963- My Favorite Martian

Ray Walston was a gifted actor and had many roles under his belt when in 1962, he was approached to work on a fantasy show about a Martian who comes to earth. The Martian hooks up with an earthling who happens to be a newspaper reporter, who keeps the Martians identity a secret. Everyone knows that a reporter would give up his mother for a story so the whole concept was a fairy tale. When awarding the 1963 Silly Ass Hat Award to Mr. Walston it never occurred to him that the photo at right would be how many of his fans would remember him.
The selection committee was upset with the entire show as it just didn’t square with the King James Version of the bible.Mr. Walston was at least spared the indignity of starring in "The Courtship of Eddie's Father'.

1981

While technically not a hat and certainly not appropriate attire for a normal heterosexual male, Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari donned woman’s clothes and wigs for their 1981 Television show “Bosom Buddies”.
Nominated by members of the liberal press, the fact that both Tom and Peter were chasing girls was what eventually saved their nomination, But unfortunately, it was too late for Scolari’s career.
Several member’s on the Board of Directors resigned over this winner stating that the whole idea was “Gay”.

1988

Michael Dukakis was actually a serious (as serious as a Democrat can be) candidate for President of the United States. Most people believe this photo more or less ended his political aspirations. Shortly after this photo was taken, the U.S. Military adopted it’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell policy on gays.”
Swarthmore College requested that Mr. Dukakis not mention his attendance at, and subsequent graduation from Swarthmore.
